History of the Budweiser Clydesdales and Their American Tradition

Back in 1933, August A. Busch Jr. and Adolphus Busch III gave their father a hitch of six Clydesdales to celebrate the repeal of Prohibition, which turned into a marketing milestone.  Soon after, another hitch was sent to New York City, which brought the crowds to witness the delivery of Budweiser to Alfred E. Smith. That kicked off a tour of the East Coast and Washington, D.C., for a ceremonial delivery to President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The Budweiser Clydesdales eventually expanded to an eight-horse hitch and introduced a Dalmatian mascot in 1950. The travel tradition continues to this day.
