With summer in full swing that got me thinking what are the hottest temperatures ever recorded in Midland/Odessa, so here they are.

According to the National Weather Service, here are the top ten hottest temperatures ever recorded in the Midland/Odessa area.

1. 116 - June 27, 1994

This was a very hot day in the Permian Basin, reports all over both Midland and Odessa had some places as hot as 120-125, and parking lots were well over 130.

2. 114 - June 28, 1994

This whole week was a hot week in the area and I remember highs being over 100 for about a week before and after the two days mentioned.

3. 113 - August 26, 2019

This is getting closer to today but it still did not match the hot week in late June 1994.

4. 112 - July 2, 1989

Nothing like hot temperatures to get you ready for the 4th of July holiday, which in 1989 was on a Tuesday so this was how the Sunday before was feeling.

5. 112 - June 26, 1994

Yes, three of the top eleven hottest temperatures were recorded in the last week of June 1994. This was the first day that records were set and the next two would be even hotter as you can see above.

6. 111 - July 18, 1989

The summer of 1989 was also a hot one with a couple of records in the top eleven hottest ever recorded. Water Wonderland was going strong during the summer of 1989 cooling off hundreds of people in the Permian Basin.

7. 111 - June 3, 1998

June of 1998 was also a hot month with temperatures getting into the triple digits several times, but only twice did the temperatures get hot enough to make the top eleven hottest days ever recorded.

8. 111 - June 27, 1998

The average temperature for June is 95 so this date was about 16 degrees hotter than the average making June 1998 a pretty hot month.

9. 111 - June 25, 2011

The heat was not just in the 80s and 90s, we have set records in the 21st Century also.

10. 111 - June 17, 2017

There is nothing else to say except it has been hot a lot in Midland/Odessa.

11. 111 - July 14, 2020

The first decade of the 21st Century didn't set any records, but we are making up for it in the 10s and 20s. This is when we wish Water Wonderland was back up and running so we can beat the heat like we did 40 years ago.
