Things are bigger and better in Texas ... including the ghosts, ghouls and psychos.

Halloween is only about a month away and pretty soon everyone will be going full blown spooky with decorations, parties and ... of course ... horror movies.

I'm a huge horror movie fan and have way too many favorites to come up with a top 10 list. I'd be hard pressed to come up with a top 100 list so, I narrowed this one way down

Not to one style but too one location. All the scariness on this list was set in Texas.

Still a tough call but I managed to narrow it down to these ...

House Of 1,000 Corpses. From the twisted mind of Rob Zombie, we get the savagery and creepiness of slasher flicks, suspense films and old school horror characters all in one. It wasn't filmed in Texas but that's where the murderous Firefly family hailed from.

The Devil's Rejects. More weirdness from Zombie. A slasher film at best, not horor at all really ... more like a slasher/western. It continues the Firefly family saga. It's less "scary" but I think it's the best of the trilogy. (He took things farther with 3 From Hell but that one didn't make the list.) Once again set in but not filmed in Texas.

Grindhouse. A double feature here as we face the weirdness of both Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. Rodriguez gives us Planet Terror but I prefer Death Proof. It's a mix of creepiness, violence and some humor as a lunatic preys on young girls in Austin, where it was also filmed.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Supposedly based on a true story, friends stumble on to another crazy family ... cannibals this time ... one of whom is pretty handy with a chainsaw. Set and filmed in Texas, this one makes pretty much all "best of horror" lists.

Those are just some I randomly decided to list, there are many more.

Finally, props to Manos: The Hands of Fate. Not really a great movie ... it's actually pretty bad ... but it was filmed right here in El Chuco. I give 'em points for that.
