Being a natural Texas-born and bread kinda guy, some things are just picked up through osmosis having lived here all my life. One of those is my Texas attitude and pride, no one is more proud to be from their state than Texans, everybody knows that. But if you're planning a move to Texas or you're already here, from somewhere else, there are a few Texas town names that you better know before you open your mouth and embarrass yourself in front of others. I'm here to help.

Everybody knows the big ones like Dallas, Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio, and Houston, those are a piece of cake. Below we have listed some of the lesser-known, but certainly just as important, town names that you might not know.

New Braunfels, Texas:

Pronounced "noo-BRAHN-fuls." You will find a heavy German influence in central Texas, several of these listings come from that area. New Braunfels is home to one of the world's greatest waterparks, Schlitterbahn. Pronounced... er-uh, never mind.

Humble, Texas:

Pronounced, "Umble", because in this case, not all cases mind you, but this one, the "H" is silent. The town is named after its founder Pleasant S. Humble, not the word.

Amarillo, Texas:

Amarillo is pronounced "am-uh-ree-oh," it's the Spanish word for the color yellow. In Texas though, most of us simply call it Ama-rillo, just like King Goerge...

Gruene, Texas:

Pronounced "Green," like the color, not "Grue-in." Home of the world-famous Gruene Hall honky-tonk where there's live music every night.

Boerne, Texas:

Boerne is pronounced "Ber-nee," like Bernie Sanders. Apologies to the town and residents thereof, you won't find too many Bernie fans in Boerne but it's an easy illustration of how to say it. You should not confuse Boerne with Hearne, Texas, in which you do not pronounce the second "e."

Waxahachie, Texas:

Waxahachie is pronounced "Walks-a-hatch-ee," or "Woks-a-hatch-ee," nobody but Yankees and feraners say Wax-a-hatch-ee.

Luckenbach, Texas:

Luckenbach is pronounced, "Lew-kin-bohk." Look, if you're gonna be hangin' with Willie and Waylon and boys, you better know this one. There's not much there, but it's worth the side trip.

Nacogdoches, Texas:

Nacogdoches is pronounced "Nack-a-doe-chess," You East Texans better have this one down. There's a girl in the video below that got this one wrong, and she's from San Antonio. There were several that she got wrong in fact, be careful young lady, yer gonna git yer "Texan Card" revoked. Nah, we don't do that to Natural Born Texans, we're too friendly for that.

Watch the video, it's fun to see people mess these up and there are many other Texas city names we left out of the list above, see if you know them all.

10 Things You Didn't Know Come From Texas

What Makes This House in Texas Unique? It's Totally Underground!

This is one of the craziest houses ever because it's totally underground.
The house is located in Buffalo, Texas. The house is $3,000 Square feet and sits on or should we say under almost 40 acres. It has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and no windows! But the owners got creative bringing the outdoors inside. Check out the murals in the house. Painted trees, blue skies plus a room that has a beach scene mural. Why would you need windows?
