Texas Contractor Took Over 100k Without Doing Any Work As Promised
Letting someone into your home takes a lot of trust. It takes even more trust to hand over tens of thousands of dollars to someone expecting they will complete a job for you. Anyone can show up with a binder full of photos saying they have done all this work in the past in an attempt to get your money but you really have to do your research on anyone you are about to hire to do a job for you. There were multiple people that found that out the hard way as a Livingston, Texas man is now behind bars for taking money for jobs and never doing any of the work.
According to KTRE, Casey Dion Smelley was hired by a woman and paid $62,850 to work on her new home. They set a plan and had been communicating about the project then Smelley stopped showing up and replying to her messages.

The Unhappy Customer Turned to Social Media
The woman was obviously furious to have all that money taken without the job being done. She turned to social media to see if anyone else had this same experience with this guy and a woman spoke up about giving him $13,355 for a bathroom project that was never completed.
More Customers With Unfinished Projects Kept Popping Up
There was a third woman who paid Smelley $26,428 to remodel her home but he never showed up to do any of the work. Then a man said he paid $10,000 for flooring and cabinet work that was never done. In total Smelley took in $112,633 without finishing the jobs he promised. Which is why he is now in the Polk County Jail.
Let this be a lesson for anyone looking to hire professionals, do your research and shop around before handing over any cash.
