What does Texas ACTUALLY Have In Common With California?
When we moved here to the Basin in July 2020, I knew of two Midlands... Midland Texas, and Midland Michigan. I had no idea there were so many more areas named Midland. Townships, Villages, Cities... There are 18! Honorary mentions go to "Midlands Of South Carolina" because it's the entire central region of the state--and "Midoil, California"--which changed its name from Midland to Midoil. So aside from us here in Texas--here are other places in America we share our name with, alphabetically by State--and some snapshots where we could find them courtesy of Google and Google Street View:
1. MIDLAND, ARKANSAS
Population: 325
2. MIDLAND, CALIFORNIA
Population: zero. It's an old mining town that has been a ghost town since 1970.
3. MIDLAND, GEORGIA
Population: 11,750
4. MIDLAND, INDIANA
Population: Unincorporated
5. MIDLAND, KENTUCKY
Population: Unincorporated
6. MIDLAND, LOUISIANA
Population: Unincorporated, but there are 330 students and 20 teachers at Midland High school.
7. MIDLAND, MARYLAND
Population: 446
8. MIDLAND, MICHIGAN
Population: 41,920
9. MIDLAND, MISSOURI
Population: 34,392
10. MIDLAND, NORTH CAROLINA
Population: 3,622
11. MIDLAND, OHIO

12. MIDLAND, PENNSYLVANIA

13. MIDLAND, SOUTH DAKOTA

14. MIDLAND, TENNESSEE

15. MIDLAND, VIRGINIA

16. MIDLAND, WASHINGTON

17. MIDLAND CITY, ALABAMA

18. MIDLAND, TEXAS

So as you can see--WE are the biggest (and BEST) Midland there is! But it's always fun to know there are other areas that share the name--even if they don't share much else.
