A good friend of mine is a McRib maniac. There's just something about those boneless pork patty-shaped-like ribs smothered in barbecue sauce that keeps folks coming back time and time again. But while the McRib sandwich is still currently on the McDonald's menu, it could be for the last time.

According to a story by CNN Business, McDonald's first added the McRib to its menu in the Kansas City area in 1981. Since then the sandwich has had a massive cult following and become a fan-favorite all over the nation.

A recent announcement from McDonald's states "this could be your last chance to taste it" with the restaurant confirming that the sandwich will no longer be sold nationally. But I refuse to believe it. Why? Because McDonald's then adds: "Like any true farewell tour, we're hoping this isn't a 'goodbye' but a 'see you later'."

So which is it, Mickey D's? Does this news mean goodbye to the McRib forever, or will this tasty sandwich make a return once again? I'm not buying the hype. This is not the first time the McRib has made a reappearance. Just recently Taco Bell pulled a similar sort of stunt with their menu's prized Mexican Pizza. And Arby's has done the same with my personal favorite, the Prime Rib Cheesesteak.

I'm just not convinced that it's a certain goodbye for the widely popular McRib. I'm sure there are marketing reasons behind this news. Why else on earth would McDonald's permanently drop one of its most well-loved sandwiches? I suspect we'll see the McRib again down the line.

McRibs are as iconic to McDonald's as the restaurant's original PlayPlace playgrounds from back in the day. If you've forgotten what those colorful playgrounds used to look like, keep scrolling to check out some cool restored pictures.
