Let me start by saying in my defense, I got my pool in the middle of the pandemic. I was homeschooling my kiddos, they needed something to do for 'P.E.' and I needed them out of my hair for a couple of hours a day. Not to mention everyone had the exact same idea in 2020 so the fact that we actually found 1 on store shelves felt like a sign from the pool gods.
You guys, I was pleasantly surprised to learn over the weekend that chivalry is not dead! Quick shout out to Michael with La Ma convenience store in Odessa where I was hanging out over the weekend. As I went to introduce myself to him, he immediately removed the cowboy hat he was wearing and shook my hand as he told me his name. Can I say this kind of thing makes a lady melt? Manners. Respect. I have stated many times both on-air and in many an article how much I dislike summer. It is 100% my least favorite season of all. You have heard me say everything from the fact that I sweat profusely (some would argue this is not exactly a bad thing, it rids your body of toxins) to I hate being hot, to mosquitoes not being my friends. I absolutely love Facebook groups that were created by West Texans for West Texans and 'newbies' too. I recommend the Facebook group Midland AF if you are new to the area. The administrator does an excellent job of keeping everyone informed of the happenings in the Permian Basin and for those new to the area, see to it that questions about West Texas are answered by fellow West Texans.

It never fails, someone you know moves away and within a few months they're saying I sure miss this restaurant or that business. Because lets face it, even though some of us complain on the daily that there ain't a dang thing to do in Midland-Odessa, there are still some things you would genuinely miss if you moved away.
It's safe to say that as you read this on an August West Texas day, you're in an air conditioned building. But the air conditioner as we know it didn't come about until the 1920s. And as late as 1965 only 10% of American homes had air conditioning (87% have it today).
Since I moved into this house in Midland over a year ago, I've gone back and forth about installing a ceiling fan in the living room. The woman that owned this house before me had eclectic tastes and I liked the unique light fixture that was hanging from the vaulted ceiling. However, this summer, I've barely gone into the living room because it's just too hot. I couldn't stand it anymore.
