Every Wednesday we feature a different pet that needs a new forever home here in the Basin from Lonestar Sanctuary For Animals. Sometimes it's a dog, sometimes it's a cat. They haven't had any guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, or snakes---yet. But you never know!

Meet Sunday!

This little pup has been through a lot but has maintained her sweetness! Sunday got her name because she was dumped at the Lonestar Sanctuary For Animals gate on Fairgrounds Road in Midland a Sunday morning before they opened. Her injuries, though days old, were consistent with having been hit by a car! Although she must have been in a world of pain, Sunday gave the staff at the Sanctuary little kisses as they assessed her injuries. The skin on her front left paw had been ripped off near her foot and her left hip was dislocated. The emergency vet held little hope for Sunday to be able to keep her front leg, but we wanted to try. The Sanctuary's vet prescribed antibiotics and cleaned and bandaged the wound. Sunday also had surgery to fix her hip. The vet prescribed 10 days of cage rest after her surgery and she had to go for bandage changes twice a week for a month to hopefully save her front paw. It was a rough recovery for a little pup that only wanted to run and play but she enjoyed the extra snuggles and short periods of time without the cone.

Never was there a puppy with more joy than the day they were given the all-clear to let her run in the yard with the other dogs! Although she will always have the scars, her injuries are almost completely healed, and they are excited to announce that their little Sunday has reached yet another milestone! She is ready to find her furever home! Sunday is 19 weeks of pure excited playful puppy who will need a little training to learn how to be an excellent adult! She loves dogs and all people! Her only requirement is a house with a fenced-in yard. Come out and meet her today, you are guaranteed to fall in love! Not in the position to adopt? Share Sunday's story and go to their website to donate to the Sanctuary to help other animals like Sunday get the care they need.

Once home, remember the rule of three: three days to decompress, three weeks to get used to your routine and home, and three months to feel completely at home.
