A Lubbock woman came across a stray dog wearing a pink harness collar. She noticed there was a note attached to the collar and opened it, only to discover that this poor dog "Sally" was abandoned after being rescued by someone.

The person that penned the letter explained that they didn't have the resources to care for Sally, a dog they "rescued" from an "abusive" home, and that because all of the Lubbock animal shelters were full, they had no choice but to put her out on the street.

Abandoning a dog is absolutely never the solution. I don't care who you are. I don't care how poor you are. I don't care what your excuse is. Leaving an animal out in the cold is absolutely heartless, not to mention a dog that has already been traumatized. How horrible. Shame on whoever did this.

There are always other options and so many different resources for pets. People love animals and if buying dog food was the problem, a simple post on a Facebook group asking for assistance would have scored them dog food quickly. I see it happen all of the time. You can also reach out to veterinary clinics, pet stores, religious institutions, pet product manufacturers, and a whole slew of other people for help to care for a dog while you are fostering it. This is what they should have done.

If you are going to rescue an animal, then PLEASE actually rescue them.

I imagine that Sally was so happy to be taken in, only to be confused and terribly sad when she was carelessly left on the streets. It makes me sick to my stomach.

Pets are a commitment. You see them through to the end of their life. If you can't do that, then don't get one. Period. Don't take in a dog if you plan to dump it when times are tough. What a cruel thing to do. Lubbock is littered with stray dogs. I truly believe that this story embodies the phrase "The road to hell is paved with good intentions."

I'm hoping that Sally has a better life going forward. She looks like she is getting a lot of support and love online, thanks to the kind soul that found her and took her in. She's now napping on a blanket next to a Christmas tree like she should have been all along.

People can be such trash.
