I recently moved to a new and unfamiliar area, and I was wondering if I might need to buy a Taser on the off chance someone should approach me for nefarious reasons. It's the first time I've ever even thought about buying anything like that, and I wasn't sure whether or not it was legal to carry a Taser without a permit or to carry one at all. Let's see what Texas law has to say about it.

So, is it legal to carry a Taser in Texas and do I need a permit?

Currently, there are no laws to prohibit someone from carrying a Taser or a Stun gun. You can buy one and carry one, concealed, or out in the open, on your person, or in your vehicle, for your protection. Texas also does not require you to have a permit to use a Taser, but it is advised that you read through the user's manual and carry it with caution. The only rule in regard to carrying a Taser is that you must be over the age of 18. Tasers are also not classified as a firearm in the state of Texas.

If you're looking for a way to protect yourself without carrying a gun, a Taser seems like a pretty good option. Be careful when you open the box, though. I saw a video of a lady opening the box for her new Taser and accidentally tasing herself. Whoopsie.

Be careful out there folks!
