The rodeo circuit ended its 2022 run in Las Vegas back in December with the National Finals and the rodeo world is ready to kick off the new year in Odessa starting this week. The Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo is the first big rodeo of the year and it kicks off this Thursday, January 5th.

The Sandhills Rodeo is celebrating its 90th anniversary and starting in 1933. It began with a stock show, followed by a horse show in 1940. The two shows joined together in 1955 after the Ector County Coliseum opened and have been entertaining rodeo fans since then. One unique event of the entire rodeo is the special needs rodeo that happens on the final Saturday each year, supporting and giving back to special needs children in our area. The Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo is a scholarship program for local students. Each year the Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo award thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving students.

This year's rodeo begins this Thursday, January, 5th with a full rodeo performance that will include bull riding, barrel racing, bronc riding, team roping, and steer wrestling. You can watch full rodeo performances on January, 5th, 6th, 7th, 12th, 13th, and the final performance will be on January 14th.  The rodeo dance is also returning this year with music from the Caleb Young Band. The dance will be Friday night, January, 13th at the coliseum in Barn G. Get your tickets for the dance HERE!

Rodeo performances will begin at 7:30 pm each night. You can get your tickets to the rodeo HERE!
