Soon you might only have to register your vehicle with the state; not get an inspection. Back in 2015 the Texas Department of Public Safety, removed the requirement to have an inspection sticker on your windshield, but that didn't mean that you didn't have to have your truck inspected every year to renew your registration. State Senator Don Huffines (R-Dallas) is sponsoring a bi-partisan bill (SB 1588) to remove the requirement to have your vehicle inspected yearly.

Sen. Huffines said in a press release yesterday, "With significant technological advances in vehicle design and technology, this 66-year-old program is a relic of the past. State government is wasting Texans' time & money on the annual chore of passenger inspections when 34 other states, including populous states like California, don't require it of their drivers. Once you realize that these inspections aren't about safety, it's clear that they're simply a tax on Texans' time and money."

Citing that vehicles are now safer then they have ever been Sen. Huffines' press release tells that removing the requirement to inspect your car every year would save citizens close to $150 million and another nine million hours of waiting for their vehicles to be inspected. Resources that were devoted to the inspection program would be redirected to hiring and training troopers to detect if a vehicle is obviously unsafe.

Ending his briefing the Senator said "This is perhaps the most onerous and needless mandate that state government imposes on its citizens. With nearly 20 million inspections done annually, most Texans will feel immediate relief with the elimination of this program. It's a joyous day in the Capitol when we have the opportunity to help millions of hard-working Texans by getting a worthless mandate off of their backs."

I agree with the Senator in the fact that now our trucks, cars, and SUVs are now safer than ever that removing this erroneous tax on our state population. Now all that is left to do is to lower the registration price or make it for two years not just one. Comment below with your thoughts.
