Texas Sets New Record With World’s Longest Line of Sandwiches

It seems that for every possible category, there is someone trying to make the biggest or most of something, and Texas is home to a lot of record breakers.

Longest Line of Sandwiches Record

Tango Charities has already set two world records in the sandwich arena. Most recently, in 2016 a record was set for the Most People Making Sandwiches in One Hour (a total of 2,567 individuals); and Most Sandwiches Made in One Hour (57,662) in 2019.

On September 17th, 2022, Tango Charities broke the Guinness World Record for longest line of sandwiches at the Texas Live venue in Arlington, Texas. Volunteers made 10,852 sandwiches, then assembled them into a line. Country band Parmalee gave a free concert after the record was set.

Food Insecurity in Texas

Tango Charities states 11% of households in North Texas face food insecurity. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) defines food insecurity as a lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life, according to hungerandhealth.feedingamerica.org.

Food World Records

Some Guinness World Records seem easier to break than others. Using only his toes, Rob Williams of Austin managed to put bologna, cheese, lettuce, and bread together, then added olives on cocktail sticks as a garnish. Williams became the fastest person to make a sandwich with his feet, setting a new world record in 2000.

In July 2022, Food and Wine magazine reported three pitmasters from Panther City BBQ in Fort Worth worked the grill for 40 hours, 49 minutes, and 17 seconds, setting a new Guinness World Record for longest barbecue marathon at one of America's BBQ capitals in Texas.
