Governor Greg Abbott appeared at a conference with the Chamber of Commerce in Lubbock today and announced that he is re-opening Texas 100%, and the mask mandate would also be cancelled. Our News partner here at Lonestar 92.3--News West 9 has reported the mask mandate would be reversed starting next Wednesday. See their full story HERE.

Hopefully we aren't jumping the gun so to speak on this. He does say in the News West 9 story that he believes that we've all gotten into good practices when it comes to the prevention of the spread of the virus--washing hands, social distancing, etc. However, there are so many here who don't look at wearing masks as being important, and while the vaccine has been available for a few months, it's not completely been embraced by everyone and there are plenty of people here who have decided NOT to get it at all--whether it's the Pfizer or Moderna or even the Johnson and Johnson one that's reportedly on it's way here to Texas--they won't get it, period.

So you have to wonder--how safe are we if we relax restrictions too soon after seeing numbers head back down? Are we asking for trouble? I'm going to get the vaccine--I've just been waiting for the single dose version to get here. And it sounds like my wait isn't going to be very much longer. I will still wear a mask, because it's my choice, to be safe. And I hold nothing against anyone who's opinion differs and who doesn't want to wear one. I just want what we all want--for life to return to as "normal" as it can be. And I know that will be great for businesses and the economy here to be 100% open. I just want us all to be safe, whatever that entails.
