Here in Texas--where we can conceal/carry, you never really know who's packing and who isn't--so it's always advisable to think twice... well, maybe THREE times--before you engage with someone with bad intentions. Even though we can defend ourselves more than adequately-that doesn't seem to have as big an effect on crime as you might think. So--here are the 25 most dangerous cities in Texas, according to the FBI's latest round of crime stats. And you'll be surprised what city is MISSING from the list:
#25 SAN ANGELO
Just a short 2-hour drive from Midland-Odessa-San Angelo is the 25th Most Dangerous City in Texas. There were 357 Violent Crimes reported throughout 2019, according to FBI data. The population size of San Angelo at the time was 101,072.
#24 WICHITA FALLS
Wichita Falls had 364 Violent Crimes reported in 2019. The population size back then was 104,551.
#23 TYLER
There were 401 Violent Crimes reported in Tyler in 2019. The population size then was 106,851.
#22 GRAND PRAIRIE
There were 428 Violent Crimes reported in Grand Prairie in 2019. population size at the time was 196,971.
#21 ABILENE
There were 458 Violent Crimes reported in Abilene in 2019. Then-population size was 123,685.
#20 KILLEEN
The 20th Most Dangerous City in Texas, according to FBI data on Violent Crimes reported in 2019--is Killeen. The population at the time was 151,832.
#19 IRVING
Coming in on the list at #19 of the Most Dangerous Cities in Texas is Irving. The population then was 245,423. There were 617 Violent Crimes reported in Irving in 2019 to land it here on this list.
#18 MESQUITE
Number 18 on our list of The Most Dangerous Cities in Texas is Mesquite. With a population in 2019 of 143,078 people-there were 685 Violent Crimes reported.
#17 GARLAND
There were 738 Violent Crimes reported in Garland in 2019, according to FBI data. The Population at the time was 244,277 people.
#16 BROWNSVILLE
Brownsville is the #16 city on the list of Most Dangerous Cities in Texas. In 2019, the FBI says that 776 Violent Crimes were reported there. The Population then was 184,418.
#15 WACO
To this day for some people, when you hear the name "Waco"-you still think of the Branch Davidians and the standoff. For the 139,870 people who live there-2019 saw 799 Violent Crimes reported; bringing Waco in at number 15 on the list.
#14 LAREDO
There were 836 Violent Crimes reported in Laredo in 2019. The population at the time was 264,916.
#13 PASADENA
There were 839 Violent Crimes reported in Pasadena Texas in 2019, making it number 13 on our list of the Most Dangerous Cities in the State. The population then was 153,689.
#12 BEAUMONT
Over on the other side of the state from us--in at number 12 on our list of The Most Dangerous Cities in Texas, according to FBI data on Violent Crimes reported in 2019--is Beaumont. 1,241 Violent Crimes were reported.
#11 ODESSA
This one lands close to home. Odessa is number 11 on the list, with 1,282 Violent Crimes reported in 2019.
#10 AMARILLO
There were 1,447 Violent Crimes reported in Amarillo in 2019, bringing the city to number 10 on this list. The population at the time was 201,036 people.
#9 ARLINGTON
Home of the Dallas Cowboy's AT & T Stadium, Arlington saw 2,055 Violent Crimes reported in 2019. Ranking number 9 on our list of the Most Dangerous Cities in Texas. The population then was 402,304.
#8 EL PASO
West of the Permian Basin is El Paso--and the city comes in on the Most Dangerous Cities in Texas list at number 8, due to 2,422 Violent Crimes being reported in 2019. The population at the time was 686.793 people.
#7 LUBBOCK
Just to our north a short drive we have Lubbock, the 7th ranked Most Dangerous City in Texas according to FBI data--as the city saw 2,613 Violent Crimes reported in 2019. Then-Population was 259,208.
#6 CORPUS CHRISTI
The 6th ranked Texas Town on the list of the Most Dangerous Cities in the State--is Corpus Christi. Corpus saw 2,616 Violent Crimes reported in 2019--with a population at the time of 329,320 people.
#5 AUSTIN
On we go to the TOP 5--and we start with the State Capital--Austin. Austin comes in as the 5th Most Dangerous City in Texas according to FBI data from Violent Crime in 2019. That year, there were 3,953 Violent Crimes reported in Austin, with a Population size at the time of 986,062.
#4 FORT WORTH
Right next to Dallas, lies a place called Fort Worth. I happen to like Fort Worth because there's an In and Out burger there--but that's another article. Fort Worth is number 4 on our list of the 25 Most Dangerous Cities in Texas. The FBI says that in 2019, 4,068 Violent Crimes were reported in Fort Worth, with a then-population of 915,237 people.
#3 SAN ANTONIO
The 3rd Most Dangerous City In Texas, according to FBI data on Violent Crimes reported in 2019--is San Antonio. The Population at the time was 1,559,166 people.
#2 DALLAS
It makes sense that the top 2 cities that are Most Dangerous In Texas are the two largest cities here in Texas. In at #2 is Dallas, with a Population in 2019 of 1,363,295 people... There were 11,764 Violent Crimes reported in Dallas in 2019, according to FBI data.
#1 HOUSTON
And--In at #1--the largest city in Texas--Houston. The population of Houston in 2019 was 2,355,606 people, and there were 25,257 Violent Crimes reported in the city that year. It's not a shock that the areas with the biggest populations also have the most crime-but what IS a shock is that Midland is COMPLETELY MISSING from the list! I mean-we know things happen here in the area and it's not a total crime-free zone... But it's nice to be off the FBI's Crime statistics list. Hopefully, that makes you feel a little safer tonight.
