Every Wednesday we feature a different pet that needs a new forever home here in the Basin from Lonestar Sanctuary For Animals. Sometimes it's a dog, sometimes it's a cat. They haven't had any guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, or snakes---yet. But you never know!

Meet Margaret!

Margaret is an 8-year-old Lab Mix! Margaret came to us from a hoarding situation. She needs her adopter to have a doggie dog so she can get used to being inside while having the option to run out in the yard when she chooses. Margaret is a dog that is full of personality! She loves to run up to staff and get pets and scratches. She howls along with emergency sirens and gets the whole shelter singing her song! Usually more laid back, she can get excited when playing with the staff and run around her yard very fast a few times before coming back to play some more! We call that "the Zoomies!" To help with her confidence Margaret needs to be with another male dog. She does not get along with female dogs or small children (over 10 years is fine) If our adorable Margaret sounds like the dog for you, come meet her during our visiting hours of 1-4:30 pm. She is in the first yard as you walk into the office and is usually overlooked. Please share to help Margaret find her perfect "forever" home!

RANKED: Here Are the 63 Smartest Dog Breeds

Does your loyal pup's breed make the list? Read on to see if you'll be bragging to the neighbors about your dog's intellectual prowess the next time you take your fur baby out for a walk. Don't worry: Even if your dog's breed doesn't land on the list, that doesn't mean he's not a good boy--some traits simply can't be measured.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
