Sometimes, the perks of a work trip are too good to pass up!

Recently, I was in Corpus Christi at a conference.  My other job is working for the Recording Library of West Texas.  We're a non-profit radio reading service for the visually impaired.  Our volunteers read books, newspapers and magazines.  We broadcast those on a special radio station for those who cannot read the printed word.  But that's a whole blog in itself that I'll get into someday soon.

This conference is hosted by SILC (State Independent Living Council).  This organization helps people with disabilities live independently in the community.  I've been attending workshops and interviewing people with different disabilities.  In the next few days, I'll blog about a wounded veteran I was lucky enough to interview.

But I also had some downtime to have a little fun and I spent most of it eating!  Here are places I went to:

Landry's Seafood:  You may know them for their steaks but they have a seafood place here that rocks!  I had the grilled tilapia with fried shrimp skewer.  No complaints here!

Joe's Crab Shack:  You probably know that one.  I sampled the clam chowder and the East Coasters Platter (fish fried with a beer batter, crab cake, stuffed shrimp, fries and onion rings).  That's one plate I couldn't finish but it was really good!

Water Street Oyster Bar:  This is one that was recommended by one of our volunteers at the Recording Library.   Tonight I tried the Gumbo and the Aloha Roll.  The gumbo had just enough bite and the sushi was fresh.

I also managed to make it to the beach!

It was been a busy but invigorating weekend and I was ready to come home and chat with you all on the Legends Lunch!
