Halloween is just around the corner so everyone is starting to talk about all things frightening. We talk about haunted houses and Halloween adventures. Earlier in the week, I wrote an article about the most haunted hotels in Texas and the Baker Hotel in Mineral Wells.

Construction on the Baker Hotel began in 1926 but was put on hold after Mr. Baker took a trip to California and saw a pool in a hotel, so he decided the Baker Hotel needed one. This became the first hotel in Texas to have a pool in it. The hotel didn't officially open for business until 1929. The Baker Hotel was known as a spa destination. The hotel eventually ended up closing in 1963 due to financial woes. The hotel reopened in 1965 when a group of local investors leased the structure from the Baker family, but the revival was brief and marred by the death of Earl Baker of a heart attack in 1967 after he was found unconscious on the floor of the cavernous Baker Suite.

In 2019, plans were made to bring the Baker Hotel back to life on a smaller scale with just 165 rooms but the second floor will remain a spa.

This history of the hotel is not what makes it one of the most haunted hotels in Texas. What makes it one of the most haunted hotels in Texas is the people who haunt the Baker Hotel. One of the Baker's residents is supposedly a young girl who thought she could jump from the 11th-floor balcony into the swimming pool.  On the 7th floor, you can see the ghost of a naked bloody woman who murdered herself. She was the former owner's mistress. Another story claims a man was killed as he was caught in the elevator.  Guests say you can hear creepy noises, the elevator will go up and down by itself and many have said they have seen the bloody woman.

This Saturday the fall season of Ghost Walks begins in Mineral Wells. Your walk will begin at 205 E Hubbard St in Mineral Wells, Texas. You do not enter any building. A ghost walk is a fun, truly haunted adventure through the streets of historic Mineral Wells, TX. The walk is ten blocks but is easily achieved for toddlers, strollers, and even wheelchairs. The length of the walk is roughly an hour long.

The Ghost Walks will run from September 17th-October 29th. The will be open Fridays and Saturdays in October.

Maybe you can catch a pic of the woman in the picture!
