Every Wednesday we feature a different pet that needs a new forever home here in the Basin from Lonestar Sanctuary For Animals. Sometimes it's a dog, sometimes it's a cat. They haven't had any guinea pigs, hamsters, birds, or snakes---yet. But you never know!

Meet Geronimo!

You won't get to see this special guy if you come to the shelter to look for dogs unless you specifically ask for him!  He needs someone that is invested in getting to know him.  This will take several visits as this little guy does not give his trust easily.  Once he does though, all the time and effort will be worth it because Geronimo is the sweetest boy!  He is a 7-year-old dachshund mix that has been at the shelter for five years! Geronimo loves belly scratches, giving kisses, and warm blankets.  He will sit for a treat and loves to run and play in his yard.  Geronimo also loves to jump up and sit on top of his dog house in his kennel just like Snoopy!   The best way to meet him is to stand outside of his kennel and give him treats!  An interested person would need to come several days for Geronimo to be comfortable enough to let them touch him.  All new staff at the shelter follow this, and he loves everyone who works there.  They say the best rewards are those you have to work for and we promise you that Geronimo is one of those!   This special dog needs to go to a home without children, he is selective with other dogs and needs a yard to run in.  If you think you can give this wonderful boy the loving home he deserves, please come see him during their visiting hours of 1-4:30 pm every day except Thursdays and let staff know it's Geronimo you have come to meet! Lonestar Sanctuary For Animals is located at 4200 Fairgrounds Road in Midland

Once home, remember the rule of three: three days to decompress, three weeks to get used to your routine and home, and three months to feel completely at home.
