Midland! Did You Know This Legendary Restaurant May Have Closed It’s Doors For Good?

They say all good things must come to an end. I guess that is the case for a restaurant that has been open for over 70 years.  You know, the restaurant on Big Spring Street that has the pig outside!

Johnny Hackney and his family moved to Midland in 1951 and opened Johnny's BBQ. It was originally across the street from its current location. Later Johnny's brother Ted would open Johnny's BBQ in Odessa which is still owned by his son Ted.

Johnny's BBQ has served everyone from babies to presidents. In fact, in 1989 when George H. Bush took office he wanted some of Johnny's BBQ and of course, Johnny made it happen.

Johnny's BBQ has always been known for its excellent food and customer service. Since the 1950's people go to Johnny's BBQ not just to eat but to fellowship as well.

Johnny's BBQ was sold to Roy Giilean, the owner of the Barn Door in Odessa.

At the time of writing this, their Facebook page said permanently closed., and reading through comments on Facebook, commenters said that Johnny's BBQ was closed and had been sold to a new restaurant Pachuco's. Pachuco's is a food truck that appears to be expanding to a brick-and-mortar establishment.

If you go to their Facebook page now it said temporarily closed and their website says it is under construction. Some also commented saying there is a sign on the door that says closed for remodeling.

I really hope this is not the end for Johnny's BBQ. What was your favorite thing to eat at Johnny's BBQ?
