Mandatory Masks in Midland? Discussion Coming Tuesday

It's only been a few days since Midland Mayor Patrick Payton said that Governor Abbott's Mask Mandate couldn't and wouldn't be enforced--now comes word that the Midland City Council has added discussion of a Mask Ordinance. It's been added to the agenda for the upcoming meeting on Tuesday the 17th at 10am.

If it's approved, companies and owners of buildings and other enclosed areas open to the public could see fines up to $500 for not enforcing the ordinance. The medical community has been urging local officials to mandate masks to help slow the spread of COVID-19, with the numbers in the Midland-Odessa area at the highest they've been since the pandemic started.
