Former Uncle Lucius frontman Kevin Galloway is preparing to release his debut solo album in early August, but The Boot's readers are getting a first listen to one of its tracks a few weeks early. Press play below to hear "Miles and Miles."

In September, the Austin, Texas-based Uncle Lucius announced their breakup; co-founder Galloway and his bandmates played their final show in March ... and then, Galloway tells The Boot, he "had to decide what to do with the future." "Miles and Miles," he says, was inspired by that moment.

"This one is addressed to my wife, and is very true to life," Galloway explains. "I asked [her] if she'd like to go out on the road with me and bring the family along."

In "Miles and Miles," Galloway sings of being "gone too long" from his wife and two young children, but knowing he's "gotta get it right" for them.

"I've been chasing this road, living and breathing songs / It's the only life I know; how 'bout you come along? / Hey now, lover, do you wanna go ride for miles? / I gotta wheel that'll roll; do you wanna go drive for miles?" Galloway sings. "We both know the weight  of the promises we've made / There's no guarantee, but the chance is our to take / Hand in hand in love, let's face it unafraid."

"Miles and Miles" is one of nine songs on Galloway's forthcoming solo debut, The Change; the record is due out on Aug. 3 via Nine Mile Records and was recorded at Austin's EAR Studios. Galloway's former Uncle Lucius bandmate Hal Jon Vorpahl co-produced the project with James Stevens, EAR Studios' owner.

“It’s a love letter, and a promise to my newly formed family,” says Galloway. “My wife and I have two children under the age of three now. After touring almost incessantly with a band for over a decade, I’ve decided to take a different approach. This album is a sincere reflection of my mindset while reorganizing priorities.”

In addition to five songs written by Galloway, The Change also includes covers of "Hands on the Wheel" and "You Are So Beautiful."

Galloway will be touring in support of his new album this summer and fall. Visit KGallowayMusic.com for more details.
