National Guard Visits UMC Patients Before TTU Homecoming Game Flyover
Texas Tech has scheduled a very special flyover for this weekend's Homecoming Game at the Galaxy Stadium. In addition to starting the game off with a fascinating display, the pilots will also be visiting University Medical Center Children's Hospital to answer questions and allow patients to try on some of their gear.
Homecoming Game Flyover
The flyover scheduled for this weekend's 2:30 p.m. kickoff features four separate aircraft: two Chinook helicopters, a medevac Blackhawk, and one assault Blackhawk. All four aircraft are from the Texas Army National Guard's 36th Combat Aviation Brigade. This is an extra special event for Texas Tech as all four pilots are former graduates of the university!
On Friday evening, the pilots will do a practice run over Galaxy Stadium before conducting another flyover for the pediatric patients at UMC Children's Hospital. This way the patients get to see the display before the crowd made up of over 60,000 fans at Galaxy Stadium will see on Saturday.
Fans will remember the recent flyover on September 18 when the Red Raiders defeated Houston. It was such a spectacle that Texas Tech Athletics posted this video to Facebook:
Flyover at UMC
After the flyover on Friday evening, the pilots will actually go back to UMC Children's Hospital on Saturday morning to hand out rally towels to the patients and allow them to try on some of the pilot gear like their helmets.
After visiting UMC, the pilots will then head out to prepare for the real deal.
Texas Tech's Homecoming Game against Arizona State kicks off, along with the flyover, at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. If fans are unable to attend, they can still keep up with the score in real time from the Texas Tech Athletics website.
Happy Homecoming!
