Texas has assigned a new featured cold case, and this time authorities are asking the public for any information to find the killer in a 30-year-old, unsolved murder case. A college student's mutilated body was discovered in 1997, and the killer has been on the loose ever since.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is also raising the reward to $6,000 for any tips about a potential murder suspect.

1997 Murder of Brent Alan Gutheinz

On June 22, 1997, the burned and mutilated body of 22-year-old Brent Alan Gutheinz was discovered near Sherman, Texas. Gutheinz was a senior student at the University of Texas-Dallas and was living in Richardson at the time of his death.

Gutheinz was last seen just three days prior on June 19 as he was running errands and, as an avid bodybuilder, visiting the gym. He was also known to have amassed quite a large debt following several expensive purchases, such as new vehicles and electronic devices.

Over the years, witnesses have come forward to provide information on the horrific case, but authorities were never able to make any arrests.

After nearly 30 years, the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, along with the Texas Rangers, has reopened the case for forensic testing with today's modern technology, and they're asking the public for help.
