Thousands of Texas Workers Are About To Lose Their Jobs
Tesla plans to lay off 2,688 employees at their Austin, Texas factory this June. The layoff notice was given Monday under the WARN Act (Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification), which requires a 60-day notice if more than 100 employees are going to be let go.
According to USA Today, the layoffs will begin on June 14th.
So, why are so many people being laid off from Tesla?
There are a couple of reasons. A drop in company earnings, massive recalls, price droppings, and of course, the huge fight over CEO Elon Musk's potential $56 billion salary, are all to blame for the loss of thousands of Texas jobs. Luckily, the WARN Act provides a little extra time for employees to secure jobs elsewhere.
Just last week, almost 4,000 Tesla Cybertrucks were recalled due to defects with the accelerator, which caused many of them to get stuck when pushed down, ultimately leading to the increased risk of crashing the vehicle. The recall covers ALL of the trucks Tesla has sold since November.
How many employees does Tesla even have?
In 2022, Tesla had over 127,000 employees, but the number grew to 140,473 by December 2023.
