I just found out we have several utility providers to choose from!

I just moved into my apartment in Midland 5 weeks ago.  Yes, I am new here.  I went with the utility provider the landlord had on the move in sheet.  I didn't know there was more than one?  Most of the time they have a monopoly and it's them or no one.

Is one utility provider better than another?  Does it matter where you live? Which brings to mind, are there several companies to choose from for internet and cable?  I'm curious on your opinion?
