How Many Times Can You Be Married In Texas? Is There A Limit?
Some states have legal limits on how many times you can be married. I had always heard that you could only be legally married seven times in Texas. If you are like me and have never been married at my age, I have nothing to worry about. I have recently learned that is not true. According to Texas law, you can be married as many times as you want. There is no legal amount of times a person could get married. Even though there is no limit on the number of times you can get married, however, there are restrictions when it comes to marriage.
Age Restriction
In the state of Texas, you must be at least 18 years of age or older to consent to marry. If a minor is seeking to be married they have to have permission from a parent or legal guardian. A court can also approve allowing a minor to enter into marriage.
Texas is one of the leading states for "child brides." A " child bride" is someone who is forced into marriage under age. This is why Texas issued a bill not allowing anyone under the age of 16 to be married. Anyone under the age of 18 still has to have a judge's approval to be married even with a parent's permission.
Number of Spouses
In Texas, you can only be legally married to one person at a time. You can get married as many times as you want but to only one at a time. This includes someone who has been married in another state. If you wish to legally marry in Texas, you must dissolve the marriage before entering into a legal marriage in Texas.
Resident of The State
You do not have to be an official resident of Texas to be married here. Someone from another state can get a marriage license in Texas. However, if you want to get divorced in Texas, you must be a resident of Texas.
Length of Time Between Marriages
I always thought you had to wait 60 days before you could remarry after a divorce. You actually only have to wait 30 days between marriages. If you are married before the 30 period, a judge could consider your marriage null and void. This would be considered a "concealed marriage."
If you are a serial marriage person, marry away. There is no legal amount of times you can be married in the State of Texas.
