10. The Dark and the Wicked

This movie is a newer one that came out in 2020. It's based in a rural town and a man is slowly dying. So the family comes to visit and evil takes over. It is directed by Bryan Bertino and has stars like Marin Ireland, Michael Abbott Jr., and Julie Oliver-Touchstone. It has won three awards and 11 nominations.

9. Frailty

This psychological thriller film came out in 2001. It is directed by and starring Bill Paxton but also has actors like Matthew McConaughey and Powers Boothe. It is about two brothers and a father who recounts his childhood. The father tells the sons to destroy people who were "demons." It has won five awards and has been nominated 16 times.

8. The Devil’s Rejects

This movie is a black comedy horror that was directed by Rob Zombie and stars actors like Sid Haig, Sheri Moon Zombie, and Bill Moseley. The Firefly family takes to the road to escape Sheriff Wydell, who is not afraid of being as ruthless as his target. This film is a sequel to his 2002 film House of 1000 Corpses. This film has won 10 awards and 8 nominations.

7. Grindhouse 

This film was made in 2007 and directed by Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino. It stars Kurt Russell, Rose McGowan, and Danny Trejo. It was actually presented as a double feature combining Planet Terror and Death Proof, which are both Texas horror movies as well. This movie won 10 awards and 22 nominations.

6. The Town that Dreaded Sundown

This movie was created in 1976 and then again in 2014. The film is loosely based on the 1946 Texarkana Moonlight Murders, crimes attributed to an unidentified serial killer known as the Phantom Killer, which is one of America's most baffling murder cases. He was never caught.

5. From Dusk till Dawn

This 1996 action horror movie was also directed by  Robert Rodriguez and written by Quentin Tarantino from a concept and story by Robert Kurtzman. It has big star names like  Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Ernest Liu, and Juliette Lewis. There are two criminals and their hostages who seek temporary refuge in a truck to get to Mexico but get trapped by a population of vampires.

4. All the Boys Love Mandy Lane

This movie was created in 2006 and is an American slasher film. It was directed by  Jonathan Levine and starred Amber Heard, Michael Welch, Whitney Able, and Anson Mount. It is about a group of popular high schoolers who attract an outside to spend the weekend in a secluded ranched house and are followed by a killer.

 

3. Race with the Devil

This film was created in 1975 and is an action horror movie directed by Jack Starrett, and starring Peter Fonda, Warren Oates, Loretta Swit, and Lara Parker. There is horror, action and car chases all in this film where two couples vacation together and is torrefied after they witness a murder during a Satanic ritual.

2. Friday the 13th

This is a horror film franchise that has 12 slasher films, tv series, comic books, novels and so much more. It is all about the fictional character Jason Voorhees. The films have grossed over $468 million at the box office worldwide and were the highest-grossing horror franchise until Halloween was released.

1. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

We all knew what was coming in at number one, I mean it is in the title. This 1974 slasher film where five friends are out in rural Texas to visit the grave of their grandfather and they come across what looks to be a deserted house but instead, they found someone with a chainsaw. The film was marketed as being based on true events to attract a wider audience but it was only inspired by the crimes of murderer Ed Gein. It was turned into a franchise after the first movie came out. The film series has grossed over $252 million at the worldwide box office.
