I remember as a kid we couldn't wait for the pool to open in the summer. Growing up in Seminole unless you were in the 7th grade or above you could only go to the high school pool, which was indoors. Once you got to the 7th grade you could go to the Youth Center. Or unless you were fortunate and had a friend who had a pool. We didn't have these cool splash pads either. If we wanted fun in the water outside of a pool we had to buy a water slide or make one homemade. These days, these have it made with splash pads and pools with slides, lazy rivers, and so much more.

Enough about the past, let's talk about the fun to be had this summer! The City of Odessa will be opening its gates on May 28th and running through July 31st. This year the aquatic facilities will be operated by the YMCA of Odessa.

Not only are the aquatic facilities a  fun place to play but a great place to work. I worked as a lifeguard in high school and I loved it! The YMCA is looking to hire around 40 more lifeguards. This is a great job for high school and college kids looking for a summer job.

There will be an onsite hiring fair will also be held Monday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 3001 E. University and the YMCA is offering a certification class on May 21-22. For any information please reach out to the Odessa YMCA.
