Why am I like this? I am a lover of all things spooky, creepy, myths, and urban legends. I can very easily go down a rabbit hole searching for answers to questions I have about things I hear about, and this home in Gardendale, Texas, is no different. Even my family members get in on my mysteries. One of them sent me a couple of photos they took the other day as they were passing through Gardendale, TX, and asked if I wanted to 'look into it?' You bet I do! Here is what I found:

Folks that have lived in Gardendale their whole lives are quite familiar with this piece of history and are proud of such a structure in the small town, population of just under 2,000. Others, like the family member that sent me the photos that piqued my interest, are curious and see it as more of a tourist attraction.

What is the story? Who built it? How long has it been there?

THE STORY BEHIND THE MYSTERIOUS GARDENDALE, TX MANSION:

The mansion is reportedly made from scraps by a former Odessa jeweler named Red Pruett. Pruett's family owned and operated Pruett's Jewelry in Odessa. He began to build the home little by little for his family with help from those close to him; brick by brick, Pruett worked tirelessly until he could no longer work.

The story is that Pruett lost interest in continuing to build the home after his son Speedy Pruett, also a jeweler and amateur pilot was killed in a plane crash in the early 2000s.

According to the Facebook page, Around the Southwest, the mansion is built from scraps, and inside, you will discover a,

weird maze of stairways to nowhere and doors that open into solid brick walls.

There are some fantastic stories of Gardendale residents and those familiar with the private property. You are strongly discouraged from trespassing on the property. Still, as I said before, it has become quite the tourist attraction here in Midland-Odessa for those wanting to catch a glimpse of something with such interesting history.
