Check This Out! See The Legends That Have Played The Ector County Coliseum
Last night a Christmas tribute to Elvis Presley and Graceland and it got me to thinking about all of the historical acts that have played at the Ector County Coliseum over the years. Some of the biggest artists of all time have played there including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and many more.
The Ector County Coliseum opened its doors in 1954. It is a 5,131-seat venue. Over the years those four walls have held every kind of event you can imagine. Currently, the Coliseum is the home of the Odessa Jackalopes hockey team and the Warbirds Arena Football team. It is also home to the first professional rodeo of each year after the cowboys and cowgirls finish up in Vegas at the National Finals Rodeo each December. The Sandhills Rodeo is now been going for 75 years strong. Fiesta West Texas hosts its annual Cinco de Mayo event the first weekend in May every year. In November of each year, the Tejano Super Car Show brings in thousands to its event.
A few historical events that happened early in the days of the Coliseum were when Elvis Presley played two sold-out shows in 1976. In 1983, Def Leopard kicked off their first headlining tour right here in Odessa. On January 18, 1985, the English Rock Band, Deep Purple played their first show in the United States at the Ector County Coliseum. From 1995-2000 the PBR ( Professional Bull Riders) hosted their Budlight Cup Series, Top Gun Bull Riding hosted their annual event at the Coliseum.
Here is a list of more of the historical acts that have played the stage at the Ector County Coliseum. Feel free to add to the list because I know there are more!
