This New Central Texas Buc-ee’s Will Be The Biggest in America
The largest Buc-ee’s travel center in the country is breaking ground in Central Texas before Thanksgiving, and it will bring around 200 jobs with it.
No, the Temple, Texas Buc-ee's is not being replaced! A new store at 10070 I-10 in Luling, Texas, will take up over 75,000 square feet, built next door to the current location.
Buc-ee's Groundbreaking in November
According to a press release from Buc-ee's, the new Luling store will offer 120 fuel stations and the company's corporate development team plans to work closely with the City of Luling and Caldwell County. KXAN is reporting that officials including the Mayor and City Manager of Luling, along with Caldwell County Judge Hoppy Haden, will attend the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, November 16th.
When Did the First Buc-ee's Open?
According to Texas Monthly, the first Buc-ee's opened at 899 Oyster Creek Drive on the border of Clute and Lake Jackson in 1982. Southern Living reports that it was only a 3,000-square-foot store, tiny by Buc-ee's current standards. According to customer reviews, the founders knew customers wanted cheap ice and clean restrooms, so they focused on those things as they spread across Texas.
Luling, Texas Buc-ee's
The original store, just an hour outside of Austin, the company announced plans last year to build a massive 74,000-square-feet flagship store near Sevierville, Tennessee, but the new improved Luling, Texas Buc-ee's store will be over 1,000-square-feet bigger when it is completed, making it the largest Buc-ee’s ever built.
In a video last summer, YouTube channel BT9 described the Luling location as the "busiest Buc-ees store."
Buc-ee's says at least 200 team members will be hired for the Luling store, with starting pay beginning above minimum wage, full benefits, a 6% matching 401k, and three weeks of paid vacation, according to KTBC in Austin.
