If you are a native of the Permian Basin you know that we have our own way of doing things and definitely don't want someone new trying to come in and rock our boat. You moved here with us, we didn't move into your territory. Here are 5 things you should not do in Midland/Odessa.

1. Say Oilfields (Plural)

We are actually located in the heart of the oilfield! There is only one and it makes up most of the Permian Basin, so do say someone works out in the oilfields. There is never an S on the end. You can't make it plural.

2. Drive The Speed Limit In The Left Lane

If you are someone who drives the right on the mark of the speed limit or slower, please stay out of the left lane if you don't want to get run over or honked at or maybe even shot the finger.

3. Yell "The Cowboys Suck"

Most people, I know not everyone but most people here in West Texas are Cowboy's Fans. You will probably catch dirty looks at the least if you try to pull that off in a public place around here. You definitely don't want to yell, "Fly eagles fly."

4. Admit You Don't Know About "Friday Night Lights"

"Friday Night Lights" is not just a book or a movie around here, it's a way of life in the fall. You should definitely know that the book "Friday Night Lights" was written about Permian Football

5. Steal Someone's Parking Spot

If someone is waiting for a parking spot and you zoom in and take it, there is a good chance you are going to dirty looks, the finger, or just straight up cussed out. We are courteus around here, so don't go cutting in on people's parking spots.
