TEN THINGS EVERY TEXAN NEEDS IN THEIR CAR DURING THE WINTER

Baby, it's getting cold outside. While you're getting ready to head out there are two things you always make sure you have: your keys and phone. However, as the weather shifts from humid to cold, there are a few more things to add to your checklist before you head out.

Cold weather can mean unpredictable conditions. From icy windshields to flat tires, and even dead batteries, cold weather can make driving more difficult than on a normal sunny day.

No worries, here are some items to help keep you protected this winter in Texas. Carry a majority of the items listed below to help get you out of any unpredictable cold weather situation.

1. JUMP STARTER/ POWERPACK

Cold weather loves to drain car batteries. This is an investment well worth it. A jump starter can jump your battery without the need of another vehicle. So no more calling for help or waving down another random car- thank goodness because I AM AWKWARD!

2. MINI AIR COMPRESSOR 

Cold air and flat tires go together like pb&j. The two go hand in hand, and you don't want to be traveling down a lonely country road and notice your tire is getting flat. 

Keeping a tiny air compressor in your car can be the difference between a normal day and a cold day ruined. They even sell compact air compressors that plug into your car's lighter plug.

3. ANTI FOG WIPES

Ditch that dirty microfiber towel and stop the endless smearing. Anti-fog wipes can get that windshield clear inside so you can see what's in front of you.

4. WINDSHIELD SCRAPER

You're not going anywhere with ice layered across your windshield. Running around trying to find something to scrap off the never-ending amount of ice can make you late to work real quick. 

5. BLANKETS

Not everyone has the newest vehicle. Sometimes the heater doesn't work like it used to or at all! Keep a couple of blankets in your trunk-- hey they were taking up too much room in the hallway closet anyways.

6. KITTY LITTER

 Even if it doesn't snow this winter in Texas, kitty litter is a good cheap solution for other things. You don't have to be trapped in snow, kitty litter can help get you out of muddy situations too.

7. FLASHLIGHT

Speaking of breaking down, keep a flashlight on hand in case you are unfortunate enough to break down in the cold and dark.

8. HAZARD TRIANGLES/ LED FLASHERS

Statistics don't lie. Cold weather coupled with holiday traffic, means accidents are going to happen. Keep those flashers and triangles on hand to help direct traffic around you. 

9. INSURANCE CARD

Speaking of accidents, keep your insurance card on hand so you can be ready to get the process started.

10. PORTABLE CHARGER

If something happens and you are unable to get yourself on the road safely, you need to be able to call for assistance. Don't be stuck on the side of the road with a dead car and phone! Keep a portable charger with you, nowadays there are some very affordable options.

Regardless of the temperature outside, having a first aid kit should be in your vehicle year-round. You never know when you will need it.
