I am a lover of pickles. I have a jar of what they call hamburger sliced pickles and a jar of baby pickles currently in my fridge and back-ups of each in the pantry as well. We are a pickle-loving family. Pickles with burgers, with sandwiches, 100% pickles go with popcorn. You name it, we are liable to throw a pickle on it! So one of my family members knows this and asked me a while back to save them the pickle juice.

I didn't think too much about it at the time, I just saved the pickle juice for them each time we finished a jar of pickles. Then I came across this article in Taste of Home and found out exactly what it is my family member may be using the pickle juice for and now I think I need to keep it for myself. Who knew pickle juice had some interesting health benefits?

5 REASONS TO SAVE THE PICKLE JUICE ONCE YOU'VE FINISHED THE PICKLES:

*weight loss-in a study from back in 2009, people were actually losing weight by drinking a little bit of pickle juice everyday. (gulp, gulp)

*helps with muscle cramps-a leg cramp woke me up the other night, at 1 am, chugged some pickle juice and I swear it helped!

*cure a hangover-some people swear by drinking pickle juice after a night on the town. I guess the electrolytes in pickle juice do help.

*good after a workout-pickle juice is apparently full of electrolytes, potassium and magnesium, all 3 good after a workout. Probably not a good idea to drink an entire glass but a sip or two should help you recover quicker from a workout.

*helps regulate blood sugar- evidence has shown that drinking a small amount of pickle juice every day can keep insulin levels in check.
