Winter weather doesn't happen often in Texas, let alone in West Texas. When people think about prepping for winter, they usually think about making sure their pipes don't freeze and whether they have wood to start a fire in their chimney.
Though we don't often get much snow, we should be prepared for it. When dangerous winter weather hits, people are encouraged to stay home, but sometimes a situation arises that you can't prevent. Sometimes kiddos get sick and you will have to take them to the doctor or you have an elderly family member that needs to be checked on.
With Texas finally getting actual winter weather from the most recent arctic blast, roads have become hazardous. When the roads get slick you never know what could happen. Your car should have certain items in it for those emergencies.

Having a flashlight in your car can come in handy at any time of the year. You might have a breakdown at night and need the light to investigate or repair. If you can't fix your car and are in a dark location, you could use it to signal roadside assistance if they can't find you in the dark.

These come in handy if your car breaks down and you are stuck without a heater. Having a sleeping bag or blanket can keep you warm until help arrives. You never know when or where this will happen. It could take a while for help to come and you don't want to be stuck in freezing weather without some sort of protection from the cold.
