Texas is home to several incredible companies, and most often it is our tech businesses and oil and gas industry that are cited for their global dominance. However, some of the greatest accomplishments of the Lone Star State come in the dining world, and it goes far beyond being the birthplace of the frozen margarita or 7-Eleven and their Slurpee.

Over the last year and a half or so we have been seeing restaurants shutter across Texas and the country, and that even includes many once popular dining choices that began or were headquartered here like TGI-Fridays or Ponderosa. Nobody wants to see their favorite chain or franchise disappear, but that is the sad reality of changing dining habits and markets.

Good market growth is usually something over 5%, and market stability is generally covered with 1-3% growth to keep up with changing food costs, employee turnover, and general inflation. According to this WFAA article, Chili's just reported nearly 33% growth in their most recent quarter, and it was not from people watching the second and third Austin Powers movies.

A lot of the success according to insiders is being attributed to their many convenient locations, and they have had a strong push in advertising over the last three years. I have always enjoyed Chili's, and writing this article makes me think it might be time for my three kids to enjoy their first Chili's experience too.
