Texas police officers do many things daily to keep us safe.

From tracking down criminals, to investigating cold cases, officers in the Lone Star State are keeping their ever watchful eye on the state. Safe to say, law enforcement in Texas doesn't receive enough thanks. However, some of us might not know what to do when they come to see us.

Simply put, it might be a bit unnerving for some to talk to police, especially when they appear unannounced. Have you ever had a police officer come to house and knock on your door? What should you do?

Could you potentially ignore the knocking and continue on with your day? Or must you answer the door? The answer is a bit complicated.

As revealed by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, residents of the state of Texas have options when an officer appears at their door. If the officer shows up without a warning, you don't have to answer the door. However, the rules are different if an officer is expected.

If police are expected at your living area, you must answer the door when they knock on it. Texas officers also must reveal why they have come to your house as well. In addition, police in the state will not be able to enter your home unless they sense something illegal is happening inside the home they're at.

Remember to be smart and safe Texas!
