How Much Does Texas Really Love Halloween?

According to a recent survey, Texas ranked 20th (or tied for 19th) among all states in Halloween enthusiasm. That may sound “middle of the pack,” but the numbers don’t tell the full story. When you peel back the layers like a mad scientist at a monster party, it becomes clear that Texans love Halloween in their own big, bold, and slightly rebellious way.

The Lone Star State is home to more than 100 haunted attractions, from massive scream parks to backyard horror experiences. You’ll see more Halloween yard displays in some Texas neighborhoods than Christmas lights — and for some of us, that warms our cold, black hearts.

👻 The Bible Belt Dichotomy

Texas is a land of contrasts. On one hand, you’ve got die-hard Halloween lovers turning their garages into haunted mazes. On the other hand, you’ve got folks who still believe the holiday is “against God.” It’s wild that a night devoted to costumes, candy, and fun-sized Snickers can be seen as a threat to morality.

But here’s the truth: that tension — that push and pull — is part of what fuels Texas’ Halloween passion. For many, Halloween is “our time.” It’s a release from the constant hum of Bible Belt expectations, a brief window when the weird, creative, and mischievous among us get to breathe.

Halloween in Texas: A Rebellion Wrapped in Candy and Costumes

So sure, Texas isn’t #1 in the rankings. But maybe that’s the point. Halloween in Texas isn’t about conformity — it’s about carving out joy where others might see sin. It’s about saying, “We’re not against you — we just don’t want to be like you.” That defiant love of Halloween, that refusal to bow to the bland, is what makes our celebration uniquely Texan.

In other words: 20th place never looked so good.
